Field started every baseball game as the Cardinal catcher since his freshman season. " I love everything about baseball," Field said. "It's great to be selected to play on the All-Star team. It means all the hard work was worth it. One of my goals was to be able to play college baseball. I signed to play at Winona State earlier this year." Field is the ninth NHS player to be selected to play in the IHSBCA All-Star Game. "Taylor has worked extremely hard at developing the skills needed to play the game of baseball at a high level," Coach Tisdale said. "You don't just show up and do things he can do All-Star Catcher base runners attempting to steal against the Cardinal defense on the season. He had a .954 fielding average as catcher. Field's .352 batting average led the Cardinal offense, so did his 38 hits, three home runs, 12 doubles and 21 RBI. Field hit two triples and scored 20 runs. He was 11-for-15 on stolen base attempts. Field, who was voted Newton's MVP for the season, logged 138 games as a Newton Cardinal in four years of action. He had 436 at bats with 134 hits in that time span. He rolled up 31 doubles and hit three home runs, which all came this season. Field drove in 62 runs and scored 58. His four-year batting average was .307, plus he had a career slugging average of .385. Field's on-base average was .386. Coaches Riley and Tisdale said they were proud of Field and his accomplishments. Tisdale said Field can also play infield, outfield, and pitch. "You do not find that kind of versatility among high school catchers very often. Taylor's catching skills prevented many teams from even trying to steal bases and when teams did try to steal, they were often thrown out," Tisdale said. "There is great value as a pitcher in having a catcher who can block breaking pitches in the dirt that have to be thrown to get hitters out." as a high school player on the field. He really did an outstanding job behind the plate — calling pitches, blocking pitches and throwing runners out — and hit for average and power plus stole bases." Field was honored as the conference- best behind the plate by the Little Hawkeye coaches.
